January is the month of good intentions, where we resolve to make serious changes to our lives to help us be happier and healthier in the future. But over the year, it can be very tricky to stick to the resolutions we made at the start, so it’s important to have a few tricks up your sleeve to ensure you make it to December with your resolutions still intact.
First of all, think about the changes you want to make and set yourself smaller attainable goals that you can hit throughout the year. Being realistic with your resolutions can make all the difference when it comes to sticking to them.
Another key point is to not give yourself too much to aim for. You don’t want to overwhelm yourself by taking on too much, so come up with a couple of top priorities and really focus your efforts on those.
And make sure that you take the time to give yourself praise as the year progresses. If you hit a few bumps, don’t give yourself a hard time, particularly not at the moment when there is so much uncertainty surrounding our lives. If your goal was to exercise every day, don’t berate yourself if you miss a few here or there – you can easily get back on track.
Where health resolutions are concerned, in particular, also remember that change really is a process and you won’t see immediate results. But with time, patience and a bit of dedication, you’re sure to see the bad habits you’ve formed over the years fall away and before you know it, you’ll be where you want to be.
