Is It Normal To Feel Tired After Physio?


As a practice, physiotherapy can yield all sorts of positive benefits, helping people address pain of various kinds, heal from injuries, improve chronic conditions, increase mobility and range of motion, and so on.

However, if you’ve never been to see a physio before, it’s important to know what to expect both during and after your session, as there are some potentially surprising side-effects that you may experience.

For example, during the session you may experience some aches, pains and twinges, depending on the reason for your visit. You may need to move your body around or do some exercises that can cause pain, so just make sure you’re vocal about how your body is feeling, letting your therapist know as you go.

It’s because of this that you may experience fatigue and tiredness after your physio session… but don’t worry! This is entirely normal and not something to be concerned about.

Physio can ask a lot of your body and you may have to put it in positions or do exercises that it resists against, which can really take its toll so don’t be worried if you do feel tired after your appointment.

All you need to do is make sure you give yourself enough time afterwards to rest and recover, making sure that you drink plenty of water after your visit so you can rehydrate your tired muscles and joints.

It’s not just physical side-effects you may experience, so also don’t be surprised if you feel a bit upset or anxious before or after your session. As long as you’re open and honest with your physiotherapist, you’ll be able to weather the storms as they approach – and before you know it, you’ll be feeling much more like yourself once again.
