The cold weather is not an excuse to put your workout gear away for a few months, as there are many activities that are great to try during the winter season.
According to fitness expert Jilian Michaels, this is the perfect time to try a different sport, if you are unable to take part in your favourite activities.
Speaking with Yahoo! Life, the creator of The Fitness App by Jilian Michaels, said: “You might not be surfing, kayaking, biking if you live in colder parts of the world – but I would encourage you to cross-country ski, snowboard, snowshoe, or ice-skate.”
She encouraged people who love exercising in the open air to continue to do so, as “there are plenty of fund outdoor activities you can add to your routine”.
The health and wellness guru also reminded fitness enthusiasts: “Anything you love in the other months you can still do in the gym or at home.”
So if you are a fan of HIIT routines, need to pound out some steps on the treadmill, or get great satisfaction when lifting weights, these can all be done whether it is warm or cold outside, meaning winter is not a reason to be less active than usual.
However, you do not need to be a gym member to stay fit over the cold season, as there are plenty of exercises you can do at home, including yoga, dumbbell workouts, skipping, and push-ups.
To stay motivated once the temperature drops, Michaels advises having an upbeat playlist to get you moving and preparing your fitness gear, food and equipment the night before, so you have no reason to put off working out.
She also recommended following influencers on social media to find like-minded people and gain extra support on your fitness journey.
