When you have a desk job, it can be difficult to remember to get up and move around once you’re stuck into your work but it’s important to do so as much as possible, as sitting still or in one position for too long can be very detrimental to your health.
There are various strategies you can employ that will help you to remember to move, such as setting a timer on your phone. When it goes off, get up and do some stretching or walk around the room. Alternatively, set up an alarm clock to go off but put it well out of reach so you have to get up to turn it off.
You could also consider downloading an app to help you get moving regularly throughout the day, such as StandApp, which includes an alarm reminder to get you away from your desk and moving around. It also features some exercises you can do at your desk to help limber you up.
Desk yoga could be a fun way to make sure you keep moving, as well. Why don’t you make sure you do five minutes of yoga poses from your chair every hour for a week and see how good you feel at the end of it? In no time, you’ll be doing ten or even 15 minutes each hour and your body will really thank you for it.
Another option you might want to consider is investing in a standing desk so you can avoid the problem of sitting down for too long altogether.
