How To Recover From Deep Tissue Massage

Deep Tissue Massage

If you get a lot of exercise or have some kind of musculoskeletal condition, deep tissue massage can be a particularly effective way of addressing any aches, pains and stiffness you may be experiencing.

This type of massage therapy uses deep pressure on your muscles and connective tissue to release any tension and tightness that may have built up over time. Common areas of discomfort include the neck, lower back, shoulders, legs and glutes, although any part of the body can be affected in this way.

A typical session lasts for an hour and it can be quite intense and potentially uncomfortable, although you shouldn’t experience any severe pain. However, always let your therapist know if it does become too intense for you.

It’s also important to know what to do after your massage, as it’s likely that you will feel a little on the drowsy side and you may also feel a little sore and tender in the areas that have been worked on.

Firstly, make sure that you drink a lot of water after your massage, as this will help you rehydrate and will also flush out any toxins in your system. Avoid alcohol and caffeine for at least 24 hours.

If you’re feeling sore, you may find that a bath with some Epsom salts helps to ease the pain – and you may even find that you need to have a little nap, so don’t be surprised if you do fall asleep.

Depending on how you’re feeling physically, you may need to go for regular sessions in order to address your complaints. Some people may find it beneficial to go for deep tissue massage once a week, while others may only need to go once a month to deal with specific issues that rear their heads occasionally.
